REVIEW – “Bodies Bodies Bodies”

More like rain, rain, go away!

“Bodies Bodies Bodies” is the latest horror-comedy from A24 and director Halina Reijn. Telling the story of a group of rich 20-somethings who plan a hurricane party at a remote family mansion where a party game turns deadly in this fresh and funny look at backstabbing, fake friends, and one party gone very, very wrong. While I’m sure many will be taken by the fresh sense of humor found in this, I was left underwhelmed by A24’s latest Twitter-tailored horror film.

Writer and Director Halina Reijn is able to inject a very modern and current sense of humor into this typical slasher, and while there were some genuine laughs and a few spirited sequences, unfortunately, they are few and far between. “Bodies Bodies Bodies” feels like a true COVID film. A strong enough idea for a short padded into a meandering and undercooked feature. We are given little to chew on in this thriller. The highlight of “Bodies Bodies Bodies” is undeniably its cast. A group of rising stars, they all really nail the tone and pace of the film. Rachel Sennott is proving to be one of the most promising comedic talents of her generation. Maria Bakalova also delivers a strong and grounded performance.

While I didn’t hate the film, I was left wondering what the point of it all was? Maybe I am just jaded and pretentious, but this was not for me. However, I am excited to see what everyone involved does next. 3/5.
